The Fintech team is responsible for delivering many of Hopper’s unique value propositions to help customers save money, provide financial security, and reduce travel anxiety.
Your role as a Principal Product Designer based in Melbourne, Australia will be to lead the design vision of what fintech means for Hopper and help deliver features for Hopper’s consumer and business products that are both useful & delightful. You’ll become a foundational member of a high-impact team whose goal is to build elegant, user-centric product solutions to help customers’ travel stress-free.
As part of Fintech, you will be responsible to deliver solutions to specific customer problems while intimately understanding what the customer wants, and how we can measure progress against that objective. You’ll work closely with Customers, Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to define problems, seeing them from multiple perspectives and advocating for simple and impactful solutions, and explore and test solutions, as well as collaborate with other Product Designers to share your learnings and keep a consistent visual language and high level app experience.
What would your day-to-day look like?
Deliver solutions with a focus on a great user experience while balancing customer needs, company goals, design cohesion, and ease of implementation
Own end-to-end user journey and all aspects of design execution from customer research to ideation to prototyping to usability tests to final product
Seek out, understand, incorporate and communicate qualitative and quantitative feedback throughout the design process leveraging surveys, user testing and user data to measure feature performance
Dive deep on product data to identify opportunities to improve the product through design
Lead design reviews with an external partners and make strong business cases for why we should build what we want to build
Work autonomously in a cross-functional, agile product group with Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to prioritize and build new features
Have a deep understanding of user needs and business objectives in your agile group’s product area
Prioritize appropriately: Use good judgment to make appropriate tradeoffs to speed up product learning and balance competing priorities
What does an ideal candidate look like:
Master’s degree in Industrial Design
At least 7 years of experience designing consumer-focused products on web and mobile
Strong understanding of usability and user experience principles and demonstrated experience in visual design with a great sense for aesthetics
Capacity to lead ideation and align the group around a vision and approach
The enthusiasm to relentlessly research and understand the customer through all tools at their disposal, both quantitative and qualitative
Comfortable designing products from MVP to ideal state with experience developing experiment driven work and basic analysis of success measurement
Proven track record of working with product teams to ship successful multi-platform products
Can clearly explain their thinking verbally and through writing to help drive clarity, uncover new questions, and get to a resolution working both independently and with various team members or stakeholders
Shows technical depth that allows them to communicate with, understand, and earn the respect of world-class engineers
The ability to independently flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle ambiguity
Have a solid experience working with Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign.
