We are seeking a talented Staff Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering team. In this hybrid role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership and architectural guidance for a core domain of several engineering squads within our growing
60-person Boston site. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who can lead complex systems while mentoring and motivating a growing team. You will also define processes, standards, and culture for a new engineering site and set the foundation for long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner closely with global engineering leadership and the TLV architecture team to ensure the Boston site executes in sync with the company’s unified architectural vision.
Define and drive the long-term technical roadmap and architecture for core engineering systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Act as the technical authority in Boston, and lead complex, cross-functional projects, guiding multiple teams from inception through successful deployment and operation.
Mentor and coach engineers on technical best practices, system design, and architectural patterns, fostering a high-performance engineering culture.
Collaborate closely with product managers, ML, and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into technical requirements and deliver high-impact solutions.
Introduce and champion leading AI coding practices and tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, generative AI for code) to enhance developer productivity and innovation across the engineering organization.
Champion code quality, performance optimization, and rigorous testing standards across the engineering organization.
Conduct in-depth architectural reviews and provide critical feedback to ensure alignment with organizational strategy and technical excellence.
Identify and mitigate critical technical debt and architectural risks, proactively influencing design decisions across the entire platform.
Key Requirements
15+ years of hands-on experience as a professional software engineer
2+ years of experience as a staff engineer
A Master’s degree in Computer Science or a strong foundation in CS.
Deep expertise in distributed systems design, system architecture, and modernizing legacy codebases, alongside strong proficiency in Python.
Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, load balancing strategies, and cost-optimization engineering for cloud infrastructure.
Proficient in managing relational databases and transactions, particularly with PostgreSQLStrong systems-level knowledge of Linux environments, including performance tuning and advanced troubleshooting.
Proficient in leveraging AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, or GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential for effective collaboration and documentation.
Proven track record of mentoring and coaching engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence
Deep architectural understanding of modern frontend frameworks, specifically React, with the ability to guide the development of scalable and performant user interfaces.
Experience working with distributed, cross-border teams, with strong skills in debugging, optimization, and unit/integration testing.
Hands on experience with AWS architecture and functionalities.
Experience working in mid-sized companies. (approx. 300–1,000 employees)
Nice-to-Have:
Hands-on technical expertise in React, TypeScript, Nodejs (REST APIs, microservices), Ruby/Python/SQL, and DevOps fundamentals (Linux, Bash, Docker, CI/CD)
Extensive experience with container orchestration and cloud-native infrastructure, specifically Kubernetes (K8s), for managing large-scale distributed systems.
Background in fintech, automotive, lending, or financial-services platforms
$200 – $230 a year
