Metabase
Technical writer
Metabase makes it easy for anyone to gain insights from their data, whether they’re a small startup getting set up quickly or a large enterprise with tens of thousands of users. That’s why so many people love using it.
We bring the clarity and ease of consumer-grade tools to the often clunky world of enterprise business intelligence. Our open-source platform offers a strong, opinionated foundation for how organizations can measure, analyze, and share their data, and it’s used by tens of thousands of companies.
Technical writers are responsible for maintaining Metabase’s documentation.
What you’ll do:
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to create clear, user-focused documentation for Metabase.
• Work with Success Engineers to understand customer perspectives and create best practices, guides, and tutorials that address their needs.
• Become a product expert, test new features, and share product feedback.
About you:
• At least three years of experience writing technical documentation for audiences in data analytics, data engineering, or related fields.
• Technical knowledge in data science or data engineering—you’ll be expected to understand both the product and the domain.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Good understanding of database concepts and the data ecosystem.
• Experience with docs-as-code workflows, Markdown, and Git.
Nice to have:
• Experience writing API and SDK documentation.
• Familiarity with Python or JavaScript.
• Clear opinions about documentation tools.
Why Metabase?
• Documentation is a key part of our product, and we treat it seriously.
• We’re a fully remote, asynchronous startup with no physical office. You decide where and when you work best—we trust you to manage your time. Meetings are infrequent, focused, and respectful of your schedule.
• You’ll contribute to a major open-source project used by more than 80,000 companies worldwide.
If there’s more you’d like to share about yourself or your interests, feel free to include it in the “additional information” section of the application. Real people read these applications, and we appreciate hearing from you.
We’re a global, fully distributed team (half of us are outside the U.S.), working asynchronously across time zones from Thailand to California. We support each other, value deep focus, and aim to do the best work of our careers. We offer flexibility, autonomy, and an environment that encourages learning and growth. We stay focused on users and believe in building long-term value rather than quick fixes. We also raised a $30M Series B to continue building toward that vision.
For U.S. applicants: Metabase participates in the federal E-Verify program, which verifies the employment eligibility of newly hired U.S.-based employees. E-Verify is only used after hiring and is not a pre-screening tool.
