PlantingSpace

UI / UX Designer

We are building an AI system for analysts and scientists, based on a fundamentally new approach to reasoning and knowledge representation. We go beyond state-of-the-art LLMs by combining algorithms symbolically, to provide novel capabilities like performing multi-step analysis, displaying a verifiable reasoning path, and assessing uncertainty. We envision applications supporting and automating analysis and research in domains such as Finance, Strategy Consulting, Engineering, Material Sciences, and more.

PlantingSpace is inviting applications for a maternity leave replacement role, expected to last approximately 6 months, beginning in September 2025. We are looking for an experienced and talented UX designer who is able to hit the ground running after a short handover period.

Our UX Design team creates compelling, functional user interface designs to support our users in performing complex, multi-step analytical tasks using our app. As part of a lean, results-oriented team of creative problem-solvers, you’ll contribute directly to shaping an innovative AI product designed for technical, analytical users. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys turning complexity into clarity and wants to make a real impact – even within a short timeframe – as we move toward product-market fit.

Required Experience

5+ years of hands-on UX and interaction design for analytical products related to finance, economics, healthcare, and/or business strategy

Thorough expertise in conducting UX research, categorising insights across user interviews and synthesising them into a coherent UX direction

Basic programming experience and/or an academic background in a quantitative domain is a plus

Responsibilities

Assist with product planning by helping to understand and set requirements for upcoming features, designing interfaces and preparing prototypes as needed

Work closely with the Product team to set direction, create customer profiles and personas, and define a set of common approaches and principles for consistent, clear UX

Participate in user research to deeply understand and set a direction for how our app can be used in analysis across various domains

Identify and resolve existing UX issues in the app

Maintain visual consistency by maintaining the Design System and creating components as needed to support design efforts

Timeline

6-month fixed-term contract starting (on or around) September 1st, 2025.

While this is initially a fixed-term position, there may be opportunities for extension based on business needs and performance.

Required mindset

We’ve found that our successful team members share some key characteristics, and as we’ve grown our team, these are the qualities we’ve learned to seek out. We take pride in our strong, collaborative culture, and these core attributes not only reflect our shared values, but can help you evaluate how well you might fit into our team:

• A strong collaborator: You communicate with clarity and purpose, ensuring your ideas and intentions are easily understood. You work efficiently, embracing an iterative approach that allows for frequent progress and course correction. You’re open to direct feedback, adapting quickly and using it to improve both your work, and the performance of those around you.

• A builder at heart: You’re passionate about building things, solving complex problems, and approaching challenges with an entrepreneurial spirit and humility. Your sharp sense of prioritisation allows you to take one step at a time while not losing the ultimate goal out of sight.

• Results-driven: You thrive when taking full ownership of tasks, seeing them through from start to finish, and taking accountability for the results. You’re proactive, resourceful, and avoid over-complication – anticipating problems, even in complex, uncertain environments.

• Growth mindset: You are intellectually curious, have a critical mind, and seek opportunities to stretch your abilities. You explore the state-of-the-art, you dig deep to truly understand a problem, and question assumptions.

• Methodical problem-solver:

◦ You excel at taking a complex goal and breaking it down into manageable components, with clear dependencies.

◦ You balance independent problem solving with collaborative approaches, knowing when to tackle issues yourself and when to leverage team expertise.

◦ You facilitate productive problem-solving in the team to drive efficient alignment, and improve proposed solutions.

◦ You create clear documentation and knowledge-sharing systems that empower the entire team
