Job Summary
The Accounting Analyst II is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records by reconciling general ledger accounts, identifying discrepancies, and supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. This role requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to maintain financial compliance and accuracy. Experience with Cadency or other automated reconciliation software is highly preferred
Responsibilities:
Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies in a timely manner using analytical and critical thinking skills.
Prepare and post journal entries as needed to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
Use critical thinking to analyze financial trends, identify anomalies, and recommend solutions for process improvement.
Leverage Cadency software to streamline reconciliation processes and improve efficiency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address accounting issues and improve workflows.
General accounting support for insurance operations-related inquiries.
Assist in preparing financial reports and schedules for internal and external audits.
Provide support for statutory reporting requirements from within the Company as well as those required by our external business partners.
Support operational tax team seasonally with review and oversight of federal and state tax reporting requirements.
Monitor and enforce compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Maintain accurate and organized documentation of reconciliations, journal entries, and other records.
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
2+ years of experience in general ledger accounting including account reconciliations and journal entry preparation
Technical Skills
Proficiency in accounting ERP systems (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Familiarity with Cadency or similar automated reconciliation software preferred.

Analytical mindset to identify trends, patterns, and underlying causes of discrepancies.
Proactively identify and analyze system defects or irregularities, recommending solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or MBA equivalent certification is a plus.
Experience in the life insurance industry, specifically insurance operations.
Familiarity with Cadency software or other automated reconciliation tools is strongly preferred.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
Prior experience with SAP or similar ERP system
$62,000 – $85,000 a year
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $62,000 to $85,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
