I’m a professional model based in the UK. Even though I have never been a victim of human trafficking but I know many young beautiful girls, some of which became my close friends. These girls have suffered beyond imagination to the extent of trying to take their lives. Their stories touched my heart and I decided to use every platform I have and every chance I get to warn young girls especially from Africa about human trafficking.
Some people pose as friends as if they care about your future and prosperity. They look at your hardships and poverty and dreams then they give you a bait of better jobs and lifestyle abroad. They will tell you how much you be making once you arrive in the western world or else where.
They will promise to pay all your travel bills and everything you need. It sounds out of world for anyone and that’s what it truly is, out of this world. A lie. A big lie.
The shocking part is that sometimes people you trust are the ones who push you in this trench of horror. Sometimes it your uncle, your cousin or your childhood friend. Please be careful. Ask for advise from parents, relatives, teachers, local leaders, local organizations. make sure you are confident that people or person promising you miracles abroad is legit and please remember this, you rather miss one meal a day but be at peace in your home than come abroad be turned into a sex slave.
In the fashion industry many girls are fooled and deceived by these human traffickers. They tell pretty girls in Africa that they make them successful models in the west. LIE! BIG LIE.
Everywhere, a person has to struggle to make their dreams come true. Even here in the UK, we all work hard day and night to keep our professional lives afloat. No body gives it to anybody. We are all working hard. So let nobody lie you that they will give you anything.
Please remember to ask for advise from authorities and experienced trustworthy people before. Also try to ask people already abroad about their experiences. They can tell you the truth on the ground.
