What do you know about opportunity? A chance? Wrong. A wish when you see a shooting star? Wrong. Something that seldom happens and when it does it’s meant for a few people? Wrong. Nepotism, know somebody inside and they’ll get you passed the gates? Wrong. What is it? Good luck? Some people get it while others miss it? Wrong. Blessings? After you are born there it is, all around you? Wrong. Fortune? Somehow as you walk down the street, you bump into it? Wrong. Charm? She looks cute, they’ll like her? Wrong. Charisma? He is outgoing and smart, they’ll just let him have it? Wrong. Then what is it? Do you really know?
Alright I get it. You don’t know. How about economists? How do they define it? An underdeveloped sector? An industry in need of expansion? An oil pipeline deal that’ll path through 5 countries? A new Airline connecting all continents? Another satellite in the orbit? Disrupting technologies like blockchain, crypto currency or AI?
How about politicians? How do they define it? Thousands of teenagers who have turned eighteen (voting age)? A tax break deal to investors whose investments will double their countries’ GDP? A coalition party that’ll keep them in office? Cheap 30, 50-year IMF, World Bank loans that can be paid or defaulted on without serious individualized penalty?
How about scientists? Yea! scientists. How do they define it? An off target meteorite travelling a million light years close to planet earth? The possibility of finding water on mars? or the possibility of excavating the actual remains of the last dinosaur? or to them opportunity is simply existing and emerging health and technology problems which need short or long term answers?
As you may see, every group of people defines opportunity depending on their field of expertise. Wrong. In fact terrible. Because opportunity cannot be that fragmented. If it can be then its not opportunity, it is something else. Now, before I continue I need you to do something for me real quick; memorize this;
Opportunity is life in its entirety. It is everything all around you – everything inside of you. It is any path you may take, any product you may get your hands on, any service you may use. It is your beating heart, your blood circulation, and your nervous system. It is the person behind you, in front of you, and besides you. It is that book on the shelf, that rental house for sale, that brick you passed over, that broken bike in your garage, that taxi you took. It is everything you have and don’t have. It is everything others have and don’t have. It is everything you need and don’t need. It is everything others need and don’t need. Wheresoever you see desire, there it is. Wheresoever you see need, there it is. Wheresoever you see talent, there it is. Wheresoever you see ambition, there it is. Wheresoever you see hope, there it is. Everything living and non living is opportunity. Everything that exists and has not existed yet is opportunity. Everything that is possible and impossible still, is opportunity. Are you done? I meant memorizing it. Thank you.
One more thing before I conclude, always remember this;
Don’t you ever again say that, ‘I’m going to find opportunity or there is no opportunity here’. It is and sounds stupid. Don’t do it, please. Its is like saying, I’m going to find myself or I’m not here. Hey buddy! Wake up! You are already here. You already got yourself. All you got to do is be aware of it. To be conscious of the infiniteness nature of opportunity, that my friend, is your only job. Other than that, everything you touch is supposed to turn into gold. Thank me later.
