Policy Officer

Position description

The Council of European Dentists (CED) is a European not-for-profit association that represents over 340,000 dentists across Europe. It was formerly called the EU Dental Liaison Committee (EU DLC), but its name was changed in May 2006.

The association’s objective is to develop and execute policy and strategy to promote the interests of the dental profession in the EU, high standards of oral health, and high standards of dentistry/dental care. They also aim to contribute to safeguarding the protection of public health by monitoring, analyzing, and following up on all the political and legal developments of the EU that involve dentists, dental care, and oral health. CED actively lobbies European Institutions to serve the legal and political interests of dentists, including consumer protection issues.

To achieve these objectives, the CED provides a platform for the exchange of information between national dental associations and supports them in understanding the effects and implementation of EU legislation, in particular members from the new Member States and EU accession countries. It also cCooperates with all major European associations of health professionals and other liberal professions on policy issues of common interest.

About the Role

The Policy Officer will be a part of a small but dynamic international team and will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on EU legislation, drafting position papers, assisting in the organization of CED events, and providing information and other services to the CED membership. In addition, the Policy Officer will support lobbying by CED members, will assist in maintaining links with EU Institutions and stakeholder organizations in Brussels, and will contribute to CED communications activities.

As such, the new Policy Officer:

POLICY MONITORING, REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

  • Monitors EU policy: monitors agendas and publication of initiatives, attends and reports from hearings and meetings;
  • Provides reporting and analysis of political, legislative and regulatory developments and their impact on CED interests;
  • Drafts CED policy documents, speeches and articles;

MEMBER SERVICES

  • Handles general member requests, with support from the staff and President;
  • Shares with the Senior Policy Officer and the Office Manager the responsibility for tThe organization of CED statutory and other meetings;
  • Has responsibility for taking minutes at CED Board and General Meetings.

LOBBYING AND NETWORKING

  • Shares with the staff the responsibility for supporting lobbying by CED members and for building and maintaining links with EU institutions and national representatives in Brussels.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Shares responsibility for CED communications activities.

About the Requirements

  • A university degree in law is preferred, political science or a related field will be also considered;
  • Some initial work experience on healthcare policy, preferably in an EU Institution, a European professional association, a patient advocacy group or a consultancy;
  • Excellent English with strong communication skills (C1/C2 level), other EU languages are strong assets (in particular: French or German);
  • Familiarity with EU policy in areas of the internal market, health, education, AMR, vaccination, cancer, infection control, waste management, and experience with communications activities are going to be considered an asset;
  • Good analytical, organizational, and drafting skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
  • Eligibility to work and live in EU.
